The fulfillment of the Law

« Therefore on that day my people shall know my renown, that it is I who have foretold it. Here I am ! » Is.52, 6

About the original sin, St. Gregory of Nyssa writes: « The winter of disobedience dried root, therefore the flower fell and was dissolved into the earth. The man was stripped of immortal beauty, love having being cooled. »

Only Jesus, in perfect likeness of the Father, true God and true Man, by his incarnation could give back to man the splendor of its original clothes, that is to give him back, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the likeness to God his Creator and Redeemer.

Jesus, greater than the law, did not come to abolish it but to bring it to perfection in himself. Indeed, « From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ » Jn.1,1 6-17

In his blindness, man has reduced the Law to the « letter, « the Son of man came to give a new commandment for man to learn to live once again according to the Spirit of God. « For the letter kills but the Spirit gives life » 2 cor 3

Jesus came to show the omnipotence of the Father’s love which resides in him: « This is why the Father loves me because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.  No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own… this command I have received from my Father. » Jn.10, 17-18. And speaking of the sheep that the Father has entrusted to Him: « I give them eternal life and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of my Father’s hand. The Father and I are One  » Jn.10, 28-29

Therefore, the Holy One of Israel, Jesus, true God and true man came to fulfill the Law to reopen the way that sin had obstructed. So, He gives a new commandment: « Love one another as I have loved you », and spreading the Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, Spirit of blessings: « Christ ransomed us from the curse of the law” so that « the blessing of Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles Through Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith » Gal.3, 13-14

The Holy Spirit who unites the Father and the Son, third person of the Trinity, becomes our personal heritage « He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you » Jn.14, 26. It was He who wrote the living law, the law of love in our hearts. « Set me as a seal upon your heart as a seal on your arm; for stern as death is love » Canticle 8, 6. This seal engraved in our hearts is the face of the Lamb of God offering his life by love for us.

« Adam, where are you? I came searching for you, and to find you I held out my hands on to the cross. With outstretched hands, I turn to the Father to give thanks to have found you and then I turn to you to embrace you … I will cover you with my wings you will find refuge in my shadow … I will seek thy life hidden in the shadow of death, I shall not rest until humiliated and back from hell to come find you, I’ve brought you back in my sky « St.Germain Constantinople.

Only Jesus, greater than the Law, could bring it to perfection by the sacrificial love uprooting sin by the power of mercy reconciled Jews and Gentiles into one people in the law always renewed by the Spirit.

With God’s faithfulness to the circumcised (His gifts are irrevocable) and the glory of God to the Gentiles by mercy, everyone is filled with divine love to their own degree and the new Israel is built over the centuries. Amen!
